Uganda Rotary International Project
A documentary video of the Rotary International project in Uganda is now live on the Internet.
The Rotary Club of Crescent City and the Del Norte High School Interact Club joined the
Rotary Club of Kololo to match funds with the Rotary Foundation. These funds provided textbooks
and library books for St. Paul's High School in the Rushooka Ntungamo District in Uganda.

Cindy Henderson on VOAD
On November 13, Cindy Henderson, Safety Coordinator for Del Norte County, presented information to the
Crescent City Rotary Club on the topic of Volunteer Organizations Active in Disasters (VOAD).

Film Festival and Location Scouting on the North Coast
On November 6, Rotarians Barbara Burke and Jim Strong hosted Mary Cruse (North Coast Small Business Develoment Center)
and Patti Stammer (Scout Humboldt). Mary and Patti shared information on recent film and advertising projects located in
Humboldt and Del Norte Counties and encouraged Crescent City Rotarians to think of unique places in the county that
might make good locations for future projects. These projects bring outstanding revenue into the community.

Auto Tech Program at Del Norte High School
Jeff VanPelt, new auto mechanics instructor at Del Norte High School, gave a presentation to the Rotary Club on
October 30th about the goals of the program. He was accompanied by two auto students and by Coleen Parker,
Assistant Principal at DNHS. The program was hosted by Principal Geoff Barney.

Film, Most Excellent Exchange Student from Thailand
On October 23rd, the Crescent City Rotary Club’s newest Inbound Exchange Student, affectionately known as “Film”
because his name is so difficult for club members and others to pronounce, shared pictures and a presentation on
his home and life in Thailand.

Keith Fitzpatrick Visits Rotary
At the Oct. 16th Rotary Club meeting, Keith Fitzpatrick spoke about his experience with bone-marrow transplantation.
Keith encouraged all members to become potential life savers by becoming members of the bone marrow donors’ registry.

Measure A, the School Bond Initiative
At the October 9th Club meeting, former Rotarian and local business owner Steve Perez explained the significance of Measure A,
the local school bond initiative on the November 4 ballot. This bond will allow the school district to make important health
and safety improvements to the schools as well as provide for new technology and modern, energy efficient heating systems.

Suzie Dooley and John Murphy presented on changes at Sunset
At the October 2nd Club meeting, Sunset Principal Suzie Dooley and Sunset teacher John Murphy presented information
on changes at Sunset this year. John Murphy outlined the plans and expectations for a new Ropes Challenge Course to be
established at Florence Keller Park in a collaborative venture between Del Norte County and the Del Norte Unified School District.

The Event of a Lifeline
On September 11th, Past President Robyn Holt hosted Cindy Chindgren, Lifeline representative, to explain
the service provided by the Lifeline system and to promote the fundraiser on October 17th, Event of a Lifeline,
featuring astronaut Brian Shul.

Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA)
On August 21st, Rotarian Michele Thomas brought Suzie Minx, CASA Director, to share information
with Rotarians about the work of the Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) program in Del Norte County.
Dr. Minx also shared information about the CASA fundraiser at the Smith River Harvest Festival.

Kenny Wells on Packing with Goats
Rotarian Silverio Fernandes brought his friend Kenny Wells to share stories from hunting
trips. Mr. Wells brought photos and two of the goats he uses when packing into the wilderness
on hunting trips. Goats are exceptional pack animals because they forage for their own food and
water. He has packed up to two weeks with his goats carrying loads up to 100 lbs.

District Governor Ed Fullerton Visits CC Rotary
District Governor Ed Fullerton visited the Rotary Club of Crescent City on July 10th. He
shared stories from his years in aviation and inspired Club members with his vision for Rotary
service at home and abroad. Also visiting were Mrs. Fullerton and District Governor Elect Kirk Brown.
Announced at this meeting, John Pritchett now serves as Assistant District Governor.

Art Aho Reminisces on Life as a Pilot
Following an energizing tap routine performed by our new President Donna and Rotarian Kevin Hartwick's
daughters, Art Aho, former pilot with the United States Air Force, shared memories from his years
of flying. He got his start as a pilot at Del Norte High.

Pesident Donna Takes the Helm
At the end of the debunking of President Robyn on June 28th, President Donna gives a
parting gift of a gavel plaque to Past President Robyn. The new President will hold her
first Board and Committee Chairs meeting on June 30th--a jack-rabbit start!

Pesident Elect Donna Sund hosts Exchange Students
On June 5th, Pesident Elect Donna Sund hosted In-Bound student Ornella from Belgium and
2008-09 Out-Bound student Shelby who is headed to Belgium.
Shelby told Rotarians about plans for her trip and presented them with thank-you cupcakes.

Here at Crescent City Rotary Club fellowship happens weekly over lunch. Members and guests enjoy the hot meal catered by Chef Steve Wakefield of Northwoods Restaurant, served buffet style.
