Dear Friends:
I am pleased and proud to celebrate my ten-year anniversary as a Rotarian by becoming the leader of the wonderful and illustrious Crescent City Rotary Club! In recent outings to our District Assembly and Conference, as well as the infamous PETS (President-Elect Training Seminar), I have been continually impressed by what a fantastic club we have. During discussions and presentations on how to increase membership numbers and diversity, how to find good community and international service projects, how to be involved with young people through Interact and Youth Exchange, etc., etc., I’ve been happy to discover that we are already successful and thriving in all these areas. Thanks to the hard work of so many of our members, especially our fabulous Past-President Robyn, we were named the Medium Rotary Club of the Year for District 5130. Since all the groundwork is already done, now I can just coast on the brilliant organization we have already established!
Rotary International President D.K. Lee’s theme for 2008-2009 is “Make Dreams Real”. Each day 26,000 children around the world die from preventable causes, and his special challenge to Rotarians is to take action to decrease this global child mortality. Remember, one person can make a difference. Time after time, amazing events and programs come about because of the ideas of individuals. And Rotary has been responsible for many of these successes, through Club, District and International funds that provide structure and talent to carry them forward. So let each member of Crescent City Rotary seek out the causes that speak to their hearts and interests, and let’s find ways to improve our own local community and the larger international community. Why do most people join Rotary? Worldwide, the most commonly cited goals are service and fellowship. Those are both areas in which our club has traditionally excelled. So let’s go forth this year to have fun and do good stuff!
“Don’t Dream It...Be It!”
Donna Sund, D.O.
2008-2009 President
